Jan Glick and Maria Gutierrez are national leaders in defining a model process for turning around nonprofit organizations facing severe crises. Based on their own extensive experience consulting, coaching and supporting nonprofits through turnarounds, Jan and Maria have undertaken the first comprehensive research project encompassing the causes of nonprofit decline and crisis, and the strategies that leaders employ to turnaround agencies in deep trouble. Since completing the Phoenix Project research in early 2008, Jan and Maria have presented the findings to nonprofit audiences across the country. Foundations, management support organizations, consultants and other nonprofit leaders have responded enthusiastically to this first empirical work done in the field, presented in an easy to absorb, learning-oriented style.
The Phoenix Project findings form the backbone for Jan and Maria’s upcoming book on the subject, scheduled to be published by the Fieldstone Alliance in 2009. The research has provided JGA with a wide array of tools and approaches to nonprofit turnarounds, supplementing our own experience and allowing us to apply the best approach for the situation at hand.
